A Great Winter Dessert

Khajura is date palm’s fruit. Madhura rasa or sweet in taste, it makes a great winter dainty. It bears plenty of goodness for your mind and body. As a good source of iron, it increases blood in the body and with honey, enhances blood haemoglobin. It increases the moistness of your tissues.

 

Dry dates are a dry fruit and make you strong & vigorous. These strengthen our stomach. Peel dry dates and heat its pulp in milk to boost your appetite. Mash the pulp after cooking for a while and drink this nutritious milk every day.

 

As calorie-dense foods, both dates and dry dates add to your body mass and hence good for weight gain. Yet, these do not carry any excess fat and are totally devoid of cholesterol. These are your healthier options to weight gain in comparison to other desserts.

 

Both dry dates and dates are wonderful for our heart. Their high potassium and low sodium content helps maintain the health of your nervous system. Potassium brings down cholesterol, thereby, declining the risk of a stroke.

 

Dates can ease constipation. One can eat a handful of dates daily to increase the bulk of stool. As a diuretic, these also increase urination. Due to their alkaline nature, these help allay stomach acidity.

 

Dates give your body ample amount of proteins, fiber and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, A1 & C. Several other nutrients in them act as the building blocks for muscles. High quantities of minerals and vital elements – manganese, magnesium, copper & selenium – in dates make your bones robust.

 

The natural sugars in dates soar your energy level instantly, providing respite in physical weakness.

 

Dates soothe a sore throat and cure fever, cold, chest pain, gastrointestinal discomforts & other respiratory troubles. In cold and cough, you can cook a few dates in milk along with a piece of cardamom and a pinch of black pepper. Add a teaspoonful of cow ghee and drink this remedy at night.

 

For asthma, you can consume two dry dates in the morning and evening every day.

 

Seeds of dates and dry dates harbour significant antioxidant, antifungal and hepatoprotective qualities.

 

Date syrup diluted with water acts as a remedy in the case of a heatstroke.

 

Topical usage

 

The kernels of dry dates can be left on a wound to quicken the healing. With castor oil, dates stop excess oozing of blood. You can cure a headache by applying the lotion of date seeds powder with water for 15-20 minutes.
